The joy of God at the heart of all things

Iona community liturgy:

Leader In the corncrake’s rasp and the skylark’s song: All God’s joy at the heart of all things

In the gap-toothed grin of a mischievous child: God’s joy at the heart of all things

In the tantalising smell of freshly baked bread: God’s joy at the heart of all things

In the starlit splendour of the winter sky: God’s joy at the heart of all things

In the satisfying squelch of a muddy walk: God’s joy at the heart of all things

In the ladybird’s flight and the puffin’s waddle: God’s joy at the heart of all things

In the sharing of stories and sipping of beer: God’s joy at the heart of all things

In the windswept hair of a highland cow: God’s joy at the heart of all things

When children are able to be children: God’s joy at the heart of all things

When adults become like children again: God’s joy at the heart of all things (Written on Iona with guests)

Blessing Leader May God the Creator who made heaven and earth bless us with creativity and wonder. May Jesus who walked through fields and cities bless us with kind hands and listening ears. May the Holy Spirit who is around us and within us bless us with the courage to be caring and just.

Psalm 8:3-4:

When I consider your heavens,

the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars,

which you have set in place,

4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,

human beings that you care for them?
