Its been a little while since our last interviews via Twitter but nobody seemed bothered, to be honest we forgot. Anyway we’ve come back with a cracker so read on please

XFM DJ Gareth Brooks started his radio career whilst living in Cyprus, since then he has become a much loved DJ in Manchester and plays regularly at some of the cities best clubs.

Follow him @mrgarethbrooks

Your first radio show was on BFBS. How different was that to your XFM show?

The music, long gone are the days of playing Westlife and Peter Andre. Working with Ricky Gervais and Jimmy Carr was quite a change too.

What was your first live DJ gig? Any dramas?

No real dramas whilst DJ’ing. Once when introducing The Go! Team at an Xfm gig, I tripped, fell and spilt beer all over the stage.

We hear you love your hip hop. What would be your all time line up, dead or alive?

Biggie Smalls, Public Enemy, Jungle Brothers, De La Soul, MF Doom, A Tribe Called Quest, Common, KRS-One… the list goes on.

The J Geils Band song ‘Centerfold’ was the first record you bought. Do you have any ambitions to be a centerfold?

Not really. I’m carrying a little too much timber these days.

Refreshers or Blackjacks?

Refreshers. Don’t do licorice. Do they still make Refreshers and Blackjacks? Is it still 2p for a Refresher and 1p for a Blackjack?

Catch Gareth Brooks every Saturday & Sunday morning on XFM from 10am. http://www.xfm.co.uk/onair/djs/gareth-brooks
