In the first in our series we will call ‘Beats & Eats’ we travel up the M66 to find a small bar that serves great food and has great music every single weekend.
Rick Garner is no newcomer to this game as he used to own the Jam Street Cafe in Whalley Range, which won awards don’t you know, and his new gaff (well its been open since November 2008) must be due some soon. Located just 25 minutes from Manchester in the lovely town of Ramsbottom, The First Chop oozes NQ style with a vibe that some bars are seriously lacking.
Lancashire tapas is the main theme of the menu so think chipolatas, chicken wings, potted shrimp, fish cakes, treacle & ale ribs..do i need to go on? All with a local flavour and a theme I’ve never seen before. Check out the full menu here
Now getting the food right is one of the main reasons that ‘The Chop’, as the locals call it, will be around for a long long time but Rik has an added twist – DJ’s. Ramsbottom is more well known for its restaurants, black pudding festival and its steam trains but not that well known for cool DJ’s & club nights playing at bar that holds 100 at a squeeze. Hats off to him though as he’s brough some great people to the town including Graeme Park, Eyes Down DJ’s, Jason Boardman and Funkademia DJ’s as well regulars The Salford Twins & Bailey Bobbies. Not only that but each Thursday live music is on offer with the fantastic Ivan Campo making regular appearances.
So if you want to break from the usual, take a trip up to Rammy and try some tapas & ear treats…
